"Old Béloutche Carpet, 81 Cm X 124 Cm, Hand Knotted Wool, Beginning Of XXth Century"Belouch carpets (balouchi or baluchis) are hand knotted carpets that were originally made by Baluch nomads near the border between Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Our wool on wool model has beautiful colors typical of these rugs, and measures 81 cm wide by 124 cm long and is in very good condition.
These nomads are found in small numbers in Bahrain and in the Punjab province in India.
Most of them, just over 70%, live in Pakistan and fall into two groups: the Soulaymans and the Makranis.
The carpets are sold partly in the city of Mashad, in Iran, they are then called baluchs macchad, and partly in the city of Herat, in Afghanistan, baluchs herat. Most often, these rugs are small and the patterns are living or geometric.
Prayer rugs are the most common and the dominant colors are red, brown and dark blue.
The warp is wool or a mixture of wool and goat hair, wool on wool, note: more recent carpets have a cotton warp: wool on cotton.
