"Virgin Of The Immaculate Conception In Carved Wood XVIIIth (38 Cm)"
This sculpture of Saint Praying Woman of the 18th century or of Virgin and Snake, is in polychrome carved wood, richly decorated. Hands folded, face slightly lowered, she wears clothes in a tone of green decorated with red and gold flowers with beautiful pleats. Its footstep is the terrestrial globe surmounted by small heads of cherubs and thereby shows that it is the Mother of all. The serpent wraps around this globe, a recurring image in Christian iconography. Since Adam and Eve, the serpent has embodied temptation, evil. The Virgin, in crushing it, in triumph. This representation is very interesting for all the symbolism it illustrates. This sculpture is in good condition, note some small gaps due to time. (see photos) Height 38 cm
