Large impressionist composition of romantic style representing a portrait in the manner of a frontispiece with a female figure surrounded by a sumptuous decoration of flowers, the whole is enhanced by a sumptuous gilded wooden frame with finely carved leaves 18th century. Note that with this large format (dimensions: 1.40 m high X 1.02 m wide) we are in the presence of one of the most imposing paintings which we were given to find during our research on the work general of Achille Cesbron, apart of course from his architectural frescoes, adding that the perfect marriage with its precious original setting does not leave indifferent to the eminence of this period order. Good general condition, canvas and chassis with original keys. Achille Cesbron was born in Oran (Algeria) on November 5, 1849 from a couple of the 1st generation of settlers from Algeria, Théodore Cesbron and Catherine Georgeon. Achille Cesbron is a pupil of Léon Bonnat, Louis Français and Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He began at the Salon in 1877 and then exhibited there regularly. He was recognized and rewarded there, obtaining an honorable mention in 1882, a 3rd medal in 1884 and a 2nd medal in 1886. The same year he obtained the Marie Bashkirtseff prize. He was also distinguished by a silver medal on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris and also in 1900. When he won the Legion of Honor in 1897, this decoration was given to him by William Bouguereau. This renowned specialist in still lifes of flowers was renowned for the sensual finesse of his floral compositions and especially for his talent for representing roses. He also realizes, jointly with Georges Jeannin, the decoration of the Salon du Passage of the Paris city hall. He is also the author of tapestries for the Beauvais factory, including the 4 parts of France which will be sent to the Chicago universal exhibition (1893) and Les oiseaux. He is the author of the portrait of Jean Richepin as a frontispiece in the edition Les chansons de Miarka and Alexandre Georges in the same work. His artistic love for plants led Cesbron to found in 1902, in the flower garden of the city of Paris at Porte d'Auteuil, with the support of the influential city councilor Maurice Quentin-Bauchart, an "Academy of the arts of flower and plant ”which aims to deliver free artistic education in drawing and painting flowers. In 1893 its name is given to a rose obtained by Rousset. Disciple and friend of the landscape painter Louis Français, he was responsible for transforming the artist's house in Plombières-les-Bains, which has become the current Louis French museum. In 1896 the state bought him Wednesdays from the French painter. In posthumous homage to his work, a retrospective exhibition took place at the artistic and literary circle of the rue Volney in Paris (which had already devoted an exhibition to him 118 paintings in 1894), from May 5 to 31, 1913. Cesbron was a member of the Fondation Taylor and lived at 13 rue Jacquemont in Paris. Note that he was the father of the famous singer Suzanne Cesbron-Viseur.
