Oil on canvas by Ferdinand Bassot size à vue 35.5 X27 Ferdinand Bassot born in Besançon in December 29, 1843 and died in Paris in 1900 Son of watchmaking parents, he was first apprentice engraver, then apprentice decorator. After a stay at the School of Fine Arts in Besançon, he worked as a building painter in Parisel then in Montbeliard and returned to Besançon in 1863. He left for Paris, entered the School of Fine Arts, attended the workshops of Pils and Matout. In 1870 he joined the Zouaves.
