"Louis Schepens, Watercolor Dated 1862"Louis Schepens (Ghent, 1816 - 1884): Belgian romantic painter trained at the academy of Ghent (A. Ottevaere). He will be a teacher at the industrial school in Ghent.
Our watercolor (heightened with white gouache) is typical of the low-horizontal landscapes that Louis Schepens loved. This landscape is occupied by a flock of sheep, emblematic subjects of romantic Belgian landscapers such as Eugène Verboeckhoven or Louis Robbe. Our watercolor measures framed 52 x 68 cm and the view of the mat is 30 x 47 cm. The work is signed and dated 1862 at the bottom right. Note that there are some reflections on our photography.
