Ghashghai carpet with decoration of justificated medallions, rare old model of the XIXth century, measuring, 136 cm wide by 201 cm long, in wool on high quality soft wool, originating in Iran in magnificent condition with slight wear.The light colors on the dark field give a bright contrast, and the highly complex design, two large medallions, placed on a dark field, reveals many stylized plants.
The borders, numerous all compete in beauty and ancient tribal motifs; symbol of eternity, medahil, large flowers .... embellishing the entire periphery with great elegance.
These carpets are knotted in the Shiraz region located near the ancient Persepolis which gave its name to Persia, nowadays, Iran.
Shiraz is in the province of Fars where the Gashghaï tribes reside and produce carpets under the two names, Shiraz or Ghashghaï.
This carpet of great beauty and quality was hanging as a decoration on the wall, the rings are present on the back of the carpet.
