"Youssouf: "the Player Of Kemence""I do not know the identity of the artist, but thanks to Michel, my favorite luthier, I can give you that of the instrument: it is a kemençe or kemenche, a kind of three-string violin played on the using a bow. Used both in Turkey and in Greece, on the shores of the Black Sea and in ancient Persia, I let fashion exegetes determine the geographic origin of the musician. The fact remains that this watercolor is of remarkable virtuosity, despite a very slight photo-oxidation and intermediate stains which will disappear during disassembly.
Signed Youssouf and dated 1893, 45 X 26 cm, mounted by a marie-louise with golden bevel in a simple frame 58 X 38 cm.
