"Maumejean : Porcelain Plate "officer On Horse""
The name of Mauméjean is famous all over the world, both these artists / craftsmen who worked over three generations and eight artists created stained glass, mosaics or paintings on glass all over the world.
They were also very attached to heritage and restored numerous stained glass windows in their workshops in Pau, Biarritz, Paris and Spain. We present today a rare painting on porcelain after Edouard Detaille representing an officer on horseback, signed, located in Pau and dated 1884, 34 X 27 cm, mounted in a frame 46 X 38 cm covered with silk velvet red whose flower leaves a red dust wherever it goes! Yellowish varnish. Throughout the 19th century, military painting was very successful, not only in the Salons, but also in bourgeois interiors which perhaps sought legitimacy by exhibiting feats of arms and portraits of soldiers to their visitors.
Excellent artists have engaged in it, even made it a specialty, such as Ernest Meissonier, Paul Grolleron, Alphonse de Neuville or Edouard Detaille, these collaborating even for the immense panorama of the battle of Rezonville which was 14 X 120 m and was cut to be sold in pieces. See also our painting "Officer on foot".
