Object description :

"Piglet Fountain"
The popular name of the bronze statue of "Porcellino" is unfit because it represents a boar. It comes from a Roman copy of a Hellenistic marble, which Pope Pius IV donated to Cosimo I in 1560, during his visit to Rome. Cosimo II de Medici made Pietro Tacca, in 1612, a bronze copy to decorate the Palazzo Pitti, of the original marble, which is now in the Uffizi Gallery. The wax model dates back to around 1620, while the fusion took place only around 1633 Tuscan art of the nineteenth century
