Object description :

"Set Of Two Richly Carved Armchairs"
Set of two armchairs with queen in natural wood resting on four curved legs. They are exceptionally carved shells, acanthus leaves and elements shredded in hooves, falls, belts, on the four crossbars of the seat, armrests, on the four uprights and crosses of the back. It is not a pair but two armchairs differing in the patterns of the sculptures. This is probably the same carpenter because the shape of the seat is identical. We assume these are two exhibition models for a mercer's shop. Indeed, in the eighteenth century prestigious carpenters offered seats "to customize" where the decorations were to choose from a multitude of proposals together very often in a catalog.
