This print, from the 1st Empire period, is therefore before 1814. Lützen belongs to the last victories of the Emperor, the latter won over the King of Prussia and the Emperor of Russia after the debacle of the Russian campaign . The army of Napoleon having been able to reconstitute itself, the French army defeats Wittgenstein near Lützen and preserves the city of Leipzig. But the absence of his cavalry forced the Emperor, despite his victory on May 2, 1813 in Lützen, not to pursue his enemy. The Emperor, his coat, watercolor blue, on his white horse, designates a goal and gives his instructions to his troops while one of his riders down an enemy soldier from France who falls from his horse already on the ground.
