"Rare Molding Of Aumakua Figure (hawaii)"No, I did not rob the Bernice P. Bishop Museum in Honolulu !
This figure of Aumakua is famous all over the world for the stylization of his forms, his curious hairstyle and his drawn tongue is still (I hope!) In the windows of the Hawaiian Museum but, in some way, he it was made with an incredibly precise molding which made it possible to draw from this resin proof extremely faithful to the original.
Look at the deep cracks and crevices, the fibers of the wood, all complemented by an illusionist patina showing the wood a little red through it. 53 X 14.5 X 9 cm except base, 57 included.
The Oceanic Art of which Hawaii is a part is more and more sought after, but the pieces are rare.
The tenon at the top of the head has been broken and glued, a general dusting dirty it.
