Object description :

"Mary Magdalene In Ecstasy XVII Century"
This intriguing painting of the XVIIth representing the splendid figure of Madeleine in ecstasy, strikes the spectator of the almost lifeless pose of the attractive protagonist. The Author, indeed, obviously endowed with an excellent hand, manages to make that the sensual body of the Madeleine is a mystic axpression, but also full of erotic drive. The long hair covered with an ill-concealed ostentation is in fact an additional reminder of the irrepressible femininity of this Saint always in balance between passion and repentance, symbol of perdition and repentance. The iconographic attributes of the vase with ointments, cross and skull are inevitable. The scene is further enriched by the presence of an angel with majestic wings that assists her hands crossed on the chest. The quality of the painting is enhanced by the beautiful colors and the very precise shades that, combined with the clear-obscures marked, in the manner of Caravaggio, accentuate the vision in three dimensions. The painting is the work of a French master of Caravaggista Simon Vouet. The state of conservation is excellent with old reignelage. measurements canvas 102 x 78 frame 112 x 88. Period 17th century. Certificate of authenticity FIMA CINOA Expedition insured and followed with packing in wooden case. see on the private website www.antichitaischia.it
