"German School Of The Nineteenth Century"Follower of Godfried VAN SCHALCKEN
19th Century German School
A 19th century oil painting of a young girl reading a book . The light distribution would suggest that the painting was executed by candlelight, in a style reminiscent of the master of this genre, Schalcken. There is an inscription or signature on the stretcher verso.
Both painting and frame generally in good order. There are small patches of discolouration to her neck and elbow and the varnish is slightly yellow.
