MUSÉE DE L'HÔTEL DE SULLY, CHÂTELLERAULT - Plat - Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, 1735, inv. 9307.
The "grotesque" decor is the most original of the different decorations made by the earthenware factories of Moustiers.
Created by OLÉRYS on his return from Alcora, it represents the evolution of Chinese decor used in the Spanish factory and by CLÉRISSYin Moustiers.
Made in monochrome or polychrome, this decor includes small burlesque characters or often fantastic animals arranged on terraces, surrounded by floral patterns.
This decor will have a long life, but its quality will gradually deteriorate.
