"An Empire Pedestal Table In Mahogany, By Alexander Maigret, Early 19th Century"
Pedestal table in mahogany of great sobriety. On a concave triangular foot stands a baluster foot carved with gadroons and acanthus leaves at the base. It supports a circular plateau with rim.
Artist: Alexandre Maigret (around 1750-?) Appears as upholsterer and cabinetmaker from 1775-1780. Established rue Vivienne, he sells cabinetry furniture, but also mirrors and bronze objects. He was appointed Crown Furniture Guardian in 1805 and delivered many pieces of furniture for the imperial palaces (Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Tuileries, Trianon). He notably provides several embroidery crafts for Empress Marie-Louise (several of them are kept in Malmaison, Fontainebleau and Grand Trianon). Under the Restoration, he delivered several pieces of furniture for the Duchess of Berry to Rosny Castle. He gives up his business to his son in 1824.
