The work is part of some important paintings (oil on canvas, 41 x 97 cm each) representing "battles of cavalry between the Christian and Turkish army". Works viewed personally and studied by Professor Sestieri who identified them as autograph works by Francesco Maria Raineri, known as Schivenoglia (1676-1785), from his country of origin. The scenes present a multitude of soldiers on horseback in the foreground, immortalized in the midst of a fierce battle, which extends into the landscape to the ultimate limit of the horizon, where fortified cities are represented. The artist gives the compositions an urgent rhythm, transmitted to the spectator thanks to the impetuous dynamism of the knights, exalted by a virile chromaticism and a sharp and marked brush stroke, with very strong reds and blues, which give the sensation of tracing. the hardness of the fighting and the animosity of the contenders. The stylistic and pictorial analysis of the canvases, in particular thanks to the particular and very characteristic typology of the main characters, made it possible to establish a certain link with the Schivenoglia, a "battalion" still rare enough to meet, belonging to the narrow region of Émilie represented mainly by Francesco Monti. the Brescianino and Ilario Mercanti called the Spolverini. Presented in carved wooden frames with gold leaf inserts.
The works are accompanied by a detailed sheet prepared by Professor Giancarlo Sestieri (Rome).
