"Bronze Repesenting Hercule And Nessus XIXth"
chiseled and brown patina bronze, Siena marble, gilded bronze.
This statue represents Hercules fighting with the centaur Nessus who had just tried to remove Dejanire, the wife of Hercules.
Hercules will kill the centaur.
The original statue was Roman.
Only a few parts remained and in the XVth century Caccini reconstituted the statue in a very elegant way.
This bronze group is marked "Florence Museum".
It was a "memory" that rich travelers of the XIXth reported.
The quality of the bronze is excellent, luminous patina of Renaissance spirit.
A very large pedestal in marble of Siena that gives even more elegance to this statue.
