Object description :

"Ten Cate: Interior Of The Nieuwe Kerk In Amsterdam"
Small panel reproducing the interior of the Niewe kerk (New Church) of Amsterdam. The characters are dressed in the fashion of the seventeenth century, the Dutch Golden Age. In the lower left, in red, the work is dated (18)34 and signed "Ten Cate", probably for Hendrik Gerrit Ten Cate (Amsterdam, 1803 - Amsterdam, 1856). H.G. Ten Cate studied in Amsterdam with the painter George Pieter Westenberg (1791-1873). He is the author of many views of Amsterdam populated by genre figures, a type of work that was widely popular in the Netherlands during the Romantic era.
The work needs a slight restoration (peripheral parts slightly damaged by an old frame).
