"An Empire Mantel Clock By Andre-antoine Ravrio, Paris"
André-Antoine Ravrio was a French sculptor in bronze and was made a master founder in 1777 setting up in business 1790. He became famous for the small bronzes he sold to a prestigious clientele including Napoleon I. He was also notable as the author of several poems, songs and vaudevilles.
The movement for the clock was made by the firm of Mesnil a Paris, established at Charnier des Innocents by 1806 and at Rue Neuve Saint-Marc from 1812-15. Mesnil supplied clocks to Andre-Antoine Ravrio and to Thomire.
