Object description :

"Square Art Nouveau In Tin (tin) After Jules Brateau"
After Jules BFRATEAU (1844 -1923)

ECUELLE “Art Nouveau” pewter with relief decoration called “Rivers of France”. The ears adorned with the head of a woman, a bearded man and an openwork. The cover, divided into five parts, represents the allegories of our five rivers: the Seine by three naked women at the foot of the Pont-Neuf, the arms of Rouen and the Latin motto of Paris "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur"; the Rhine by a man-woman couple, a stork and the Strasbourg cathedral; the Loire by a couple, the coat of arms of Tours, an angel with the trumpet and the castle of Amboise; the Garonne by three naked women, the arms of Bordeaux and the columns of the Place des Quinconces; the Rhône by a man with a trident and a lion, a naked woman emerging from the water and the arms of Lyon. The grip of the lid depicts a naked woman enclosing a centaur holding a snake and a turtle; the bowl rests on three feet with leafy fasteners
Length: 30.5 cm
Marks :
1 ° - Clear mark by Jules Brateau.
2 ° - TIN. 3 ° - crowned rose / LES ETAINS DE FRANCE.

This model, one of his major works, was created by the artist in 1890. This is a post-mortem edition executed around 1950/60 by Maison Chaumette who bought the mold chased by Jules Brateau.
The artist's contemporary font, drawn in a very small number of copies, is almost impossible to find. I have only encountered one copy in forty years.

In a perfect condition
