Giuseppe Gambogi is an Italian sculptor. He worked in Paris and exhibited at the Parisians Salons. He represented classic, romantic and orientalist subjects. Mythology inspires him as much as the Woman, from the nymph to the goddess. His works testify of the fascination of the Belle Epoque for the idealized human form, associated with melancholy and sometimes exotic subjects. The sculptor has a taste for beautiful materials: he carves marble and alabaster, sometimes adds onyx to enhance his work.
The sculptor represents a young woman playing with her puma. The Beast rolls up the chops, the Beauty looks at her cat and puts her hand on its neck. In her left hand, she rolls a ball, as if, from one moment to another, she would throw it : the fantasy world of the sculptor is endowed with humor. Installed on the rock, her delicate body contrasts with the tense musculature of the animal.
