The King of the Turf "Dexter", driven by Budd Doble. Lithograph by Currier and Ives, 125 Nassau Street, New York. The artist J. Cameron worked a lot with Currier and Ives. Hand colored. Note two central folds, some spots in the margins. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful impression with well preserved colors and has probably never been framed. Late 19th century.
This lithograph depicts a famous sulky race held in Long Island, New York, June 21, 1867. After an incredible race, the king of the track "Dexter" was beaten by Ethan Allen, led by his driver Dan Mace.
