Beautiful and large canvas of the painter Marseillais: Fortuné Viguier depicting a scene of rural life in the Basses Alpes, namely the cutting of wood.
Our finely crafted canvas transcribes faithfully the nature and the sky of the Lower Alps at the end of the day, at sunset.
Our work is perhaps the painting exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1887 and entitled "Surroundings of Gréoux (Basses-Alpes)".
We know other works of the artist representing the surroundings of Greoux and his castle on a cloudy day in the years 1886/1887, a canvas is kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in Marseille.
Fortuné Viguier was born in Marseille in 1841. He was a pupil of Eugène Lagier, Emile Loubon and Jeanron then Léon Bonnat in Paris. He exhibited in particular from 1869 to 1881 at the Salon of French artists, but in exhibitions of the Association of Marseille Artists and Provençal Salons.
He will be a medalist several times.
In addition to his career as a painter, Fortuné Viguier is a director of the Caisse d'épargne in Marseille and president of the auxiliary office.
His works are kept in various museums: Cannes, Toulon and Marseille.
