"Lionel Royer"
Biography Lionel Royer is a French painter born in 1852 in Chateau du Loir died in 1926 in Neuilly sur Seine. He is a painter of history, religious and mythological compositions, he is also a painter of mural compositions. He was a student of Cabanel and Bouguereau. He debuted at the Salon of 1874, then exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français. He won the second Grand Prix of Rome in painting in 1882 and a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. He then became a renowned portraitist and especially a painter of history. His best known works are Vercingetorix throws his arms at the feet of Caesar (1899, Crozatier Museum in Puy-en-Velay) and the decoration of the Basilica of Domremy dedicated to Joan of Arc. He made murals for the elises, including the cathedral of Le Mans. His works can be found in the following museums: Chartres, Gray, Le Mans, Puy en Velay
