Laurent De La Hire (1606-1656), The Source and his family. Allegory of the Source and his family. 25 x 39 cm. Black pencil, stump and white chalk on blue paper. Sheet pasted on paper and stuck right on its old fixture. Numerous inventory numbers and exhibition labels on the back. Laurent De La Hire, or De La Hyre is one of the major artists of the French school of the seventeenth century. He is one of the twelve founding members of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. These paintings and drawings represent scenes drawn from antiquity or mythology. The quality of his work and the rarity of the works attributed to him on the market in the background one of the most sought-after painters. Provenance: -Collection Jean Denis Lempereur, Lugt.1740, stamped on the lower left. JD Lempereur is a great collector of the late eighteenth century, a friend of the famous Pierre Jean Mariette from whom he buys a few pieces during his sale. -Collection Albert Finot, Lugt. 3627, stamped on the lower right. Known as "Doctor Finot" it is only recently that we have been able to identify the brand of this great collector of Troyes.
