"Stamped Demay, Flat Back Armchair - Louis XVI Period"
Natural wooden chair with flat back in horseshoe. It rests on 4 tapered, fluted and rudentés feet. The studs are finely carved foliage Chassis in perfect condition, without any buttresses. Tapestry in perfect condition. Stamped by Jean Baptiste Bernard DEMAY. Louis XVI period - 18th century Dimensions: H: 90 W: 57 D: 51 Jean-Baptiste-Bernard DEMAY (1759 - 1848), carpenter-cabinetmaker, passed Master on February 4, 1784. He practiced for thirty years, rue de Clery. From the beginning of his career, he got orders for the Queen's furniture. His mark is on the pretty flying chairs adorned with the figure of Marie Antoinette, who is at Petit-Trianon. There are many works with the same imprint, including a graceful armchair owned by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and two chairs at the Montgolfière at the Musée Carnavalet.
