Object description :

"Drawing With Sepia Wash, 15c Scuba Diver"
Large and rare sepia-toned drawing depicting a diver plunging a caraque or a caravel. The stain is special: the three masts seem broken at two-thirds of their height, and the ship is weighted with a huge stone, in addition to the usual anchor. There is a curious winged dragon on the right, and a sea serpent in the foreground, both at the bottom of the water. Yellowing and folding in the middle, otherwise good state of conservation .. unusual drawing, to be compared to another representative of the sponge fishermen in the British museum given in "anonymous, 15C, Add 34113, f.180v". 15th century al. Italian private. 16th century setting
