Object description :

"“Orphée“ Bronze Par Mathurin Moreau"
Bronze statue, turning on its base and representing one of the most famous heroes of Greek mythology, the young Orpheus, poet and musician who arrived, with his song to charm animals, plants and even stones. The sculptor has represented him here having charmed a tiger and a bush, with the accents of the lyre offered by Apollo. This work by Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) is infrequent. It could be dated around 1900 since this famous sculptor received the "Medal of Honor" in 1897 and the "Out of Competition" at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. The signature: "Math. Moreau Hors Concours "is engraved on the terrace; underneath, stamp in a round cartouche with "Medal of Honor"; on the base, label with "Out of Competition / Medal of Honor"; on the mechanical part in steel, inside the base is engraved: Fizel & Cie deposited. Height 71 cm / base diameter 23.7 cm / Weight 26 Kg.
