Object description :

"Claude Firmin Dit Le Goy (avignon 1864 - 1944) -avignon Area- Dated 1904."
Oil on panel signed and dated lower right. Dimensions: 47 x 38 cm; with frame 65 x 57 cm. The rays of light, the walls and the downward street direct the viewer's eyes toward the distance. The painter opens a perspective. Claude Firmin uses here a typical impressionist composition that shows as much as it hides. Claude Firmin said the Goy (the "lame" in Provençal) is a painter from the south of France. He shares his studies and his life between Avignon and Paris, at 54 rue de Seine in the 6th arrondissement. In Paris, he attends Léon Bonnat's workshop, which the teacher calls "my best pupil".Then, he continues his studies at the Beaux-Arts in Avignon, where he was appointed professor and then director of the school. The city hall of Avignon keeps on its walls the frescoes that the city council has ordered. Claude Firmin exhibits at the Salons Parisiens. His paintings are appreciated, some of them are acquired by the governement. A painter and emeritus teacher, he was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1937 and was awarded many times, including the Calvet Museum Drawing Prize. Museums: Calvet Museum ("Portrait of Noël Biret, master metalworker"), Louis Vouland Museum Bibliography: . "Didot-Bottin Trade Directory, 1909", Paris, Didot-Bottin, 1909, p. 303 .
