"Gilt Bronze 18th Century Cartel Clock From Bigan"
Superb and rare pendulum cartel to ask Louis XV style and eighteenth time gilded bronze. Its lively and highly ornate shape is decorated with floral motifs and finely chopped foliage. The white enamel dial includes Roman numerals for hours and Arabic for minutes. The top of the clock is surmounted by a firepot garnished with finely chiseled bronze flowers. All of a great fineness of execution and quality beyond standards. The openwork hands The dial like the movement is signed BIGAN Jean-Noel is one of the most important Parisian watchmakers of the second half of the 18th century. After are accéssion to the mastery as son of master on February 27, 1743, he installs his workshop rue Dauphne until 1748, then street of the little Bourbon from 1748 to 1781 and knows immediately a big notoriety near the clock collectors. In the eighteenth century some of his achievements are mentioned in great amateurs of the time, especially in the inventories after the death of prosecutors Jean Vaufrouard and Alexnadre-Louis de Saint-Chamans marquis of Saint Chamans.
