"Carpet From Nepal Art Deco Signed Yssima Nini Ferrucci"
Hand-knotted carpet, Kangri wool, Plant dyes, Size 2,07mX1,53m. The traditional manufacture of Tibetan carpets is an old and traditional craft. Tibetan carpets are traditionally made of wool from mountainous Tibetan sheep called changpel. Tibetans use carpets for many uses ranging from flooring, wall hanging, or horse saddles, although the most common use is that of a rug to sit on. Such a carpet measures about 0.9 mx 1.6 m, is called a khaden. With the occupation of Tibet by Chinese communists in the 1950s, Tibetan refugees began to migrate to India and Nepal. They took with them their knowledge of carpet manufacturing. Currently, Nepal's carpet trade is one of the largest industries in the country and there are many carpet exporters. Tibet also has weaving shops, but the export of the industry is relatively underdeveloped compared to Nepal and India.
