The proposed painting, which projects us on a fabulous coastal view animated by many personalities occupied by their varied daily activities, is treated with those which are part of the distinguishing features of the Flemish landscape: fantasy, attention to detail and special use of colors.
These concepts take shape in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century thanks to the landscape experiences promoted by names such as Gillis van Coninxloo (Antwerp 1544 - Amsterdam 1607) or Marten van Valckenborch (Belgium 1535 - Frankfurt 1612), to whom inventions pictorial that our author has certainly drawn.
The stylistic and compositional similarities of the canvas under examination with his iconographic inventions are remarkable; we find their great ability to photograph landscapes capable of understanding both everyday details and extraordinary natural contexts, directly appealing to the imagination. A meticulous and analytical reality, in which a large space is left to the fantastic, almost fairy dimension.
