Object description :

Barava plate in contemporary fossil font from the Solomon Islands. Formed with characteristic motifs carved in several registers superimposed, a base with two rings, five rows of intercalated characters of two rows of rings. the carved characters are of Vella-Laella type from New-Georgia for (central silhouettes) and of Choiseul-Vaghena type (upper and lower silhouettes) Production is increasingly rare for this kind of size, the material (fossil clam) that rarefied, as well as the sculptors. It still takes 4 to 6 months to make this barava. Single piece, early 2000. Work sold soclée. Height with the base: 56cm
