Object description :

"Neogothic Credence - Oak - Normandy - Circa 1880"
Imposing Norman neogothic credenza in oak "haute époque" style around 1860 - 1880, in two parts this piece of furniture is composed of a checkered base, surmounted by two feet screws and a background decorated with four panels in folds of towels supporting a body opening with three doors and three drawers
; A portrait of a noble lady wearing a medallion framed by two dolphins decorates the door on the left. A helmeted knight portrait posed in a medallion framed by two dolphins adorns the door on the right.
A coat of arms decorated with two lily flowers, two moons and a central cross is topped and framed by horns of plenty, carved pomegranates.
(symbol of manhood) A carved decoration of flowers, vines and grapes (symbol of strength) adorns the uprights.
We are led to think that these two characters are the sponsors of this piece of furniture for their wedding.
This powerful piece of furniture incorporates all the symbolism of 15th and 16th century furniture.
