Object description :

"Capriccio Architectural Alberto Carlieri"
Oil on canvas depicting an architectural capriccio measuring 133 x 99 cm without frame and 141 x 107 with frame of the painter Alberto Carlieri (Rome 1672 - 1719). This impressive architectural capriccio consists of the remains of an ancient Roman temple on smooth columns with composite capitals and fluted pilasters, framed diagonally to the left, leaving space on the opposite side to an arch in which a landscape or landscape is tense, with the bizarre presence of two still sketched pyramids and one more distant, perfectly Eaves. In the foreground, in the center, is a group of four Turks: two women sitting on the floor in a specular position and another in conversation with a man with a rich red turban. An inventive fantasy that pursues an architectural scheme that can be found in many works of this great master who responds to the name of Alberto Carlieri to which the figurative imprint of these characters is perfectly reconnected. It is a work of the mature age of the painter, when this pleasant specialist of the field, certainly the most prolific of Rome in the decades between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, had turned to eminently decorative goals abandoning this rigor perspective that characterized his debut in the footsteps of Viviano Codazzi and Giovanni Ghisolfi. This great painter is an important figure in the evolution of this pictorial genre during the second half of the 17th century with possible reciprocal relations with the young Pannini. However, there is no doubt that Carlieri played an active role in this particular iconographic field, for the modern direction he pursued with decisive anticipations, as well as on Pannini, also on specialists of a more recent generation as Nice and Battaglioli. The work, like all our objects, is sold accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity; this document identifies the object by adding value to the article.
