"Holy Family Signed Alonso Del Arco. 17th Century Spanish School"
Born in Madrid in 1635, Alonso del Arco was a disciple of Antonio de Pereda. He was born deaf and was sometimes nicknamed "El Sordillo de Pereda". He is an eminent painter of historical scenes, portraits and religious subjects. Many of his paintings are mentioned by Palomino, especially the miraculous design, and the Assumption of the Virgin, in the cloister of the Trinitarios Descalzos in Madrid as well as in the church of San Salvador. Many of his works can be seen in the Prado Museum, in Madrilenian churches as well as in other places throughout Spain. He died in Madrid in 1704. Two large paintings are also visible in the Sacristy of the Church Saint Francois de Sales in the 17th arrondissement in Paris. The paintings have a very beautiful period gilded wooden frame, a collection number in red (158) specific to the great Spanish collections. It is sold with an accredited expert certificate.
