Isidore Jules Bonheur (1827-1901) was a French painter and sculptor. Isidore first received an artistic learning of his father Raymond and his older sister Rosa, and then in 1827 he entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris. After practicing painting, it sent a plaster group to the Salon of 1848 : an "African Horseman attacked by a lioness" ; he thus moved towards the animal sculpture. His group bull battle was then noticed at the 1850 Salon. It consists essentially groups of small animals. Isidore Bonheur got medals in 1865 and 1869 salons, and a gold medal at the 1889 World Fair in Paris. He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1895. His brother-in-law, the art founder François Auguste Hippolyte Peyrol (1856-1929), cast his bronzes for many years.
