William Of Orange Nassau

Very beautiful and rare portrait of Guillaume d'ORANGE-NASSAU, painted in 1657.
In this portrait, Guillaume is represented at the age of 7, he still wears the yellow dress that the boys wore for the northern countries.
Description of the canvas:
The hand placed on the head of a lion, symbol of the Orange-Nassau family, he wears the order of the Holy Spirit, the order of the Garter and the baton of command (because the last prince of Orange-Nassau) .
Behind him a column which symbolizes power and constancy.
By marrying his cousin Mary II Stuart (daughter of James of York), he ascended the throne of England, over which he reigned until his death in 1704.

Our portrait comes from the compositions of the painter Cornelis Janssens van CEULEN dit JONHSON and his studio. This painter made several portraits of Guillaume. Of which a version of our painting is kept at Knole Castle in Kent, another version (reduced and tightened at the bust) is at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
