Good condition, dimensions: 66 cm X 49 cm / at sight: 49 cm X 32 cm. BIOGRAPHY: Born in 1891 in Toulouse, Louis Latapie is a painter, illustrator and decorator. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he studied at Jean Paul Laurens, he attended the Académie Julian where he befriended the cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz, then it's up to Academie Ranson where he discovers the work of Paul Sérusier and devotes himself to the research of Cubism in collaboration with Max Jacob and Jean Metzinger. In 1922 he began to exhibit his cubist works alongside those of Jacques Villon (brother of Marcel Duchamp). In 1923, Latapie met Georges Braque and Ozenfant, in 1925 Latapie moved to Toulon where he founded a free academy with Juan Gris, he is conquered by the luxuriance of the light of the south. The work of Louis Latapie is fully integrated in the history of 20th century painting and takes its rightful place in the emblematic chapters federated by cubism, a membership that he will know how to feed from his personal vision. All his life, his style will be dominated by the need to add to the rigor of cubism the lyricism of color. He will carry out many decorative works: the La Coupole brasserie in Montparnasse, a 40m² wall at the Pierre de Coubertin stadium in Boulogne, tapestries and mosaics. Counting among the youngest painters of his generation, gifted and receptive to great innovative movements, Louis Latapie was born in painting by adopting Cubism in full bloom.
