"Portrait of a Gentleman, Mr. Desmoundt painted in 1601." Portrait of a gentleman, Monsieur Desmoundt painted in 1601. Flemish school of the early seventeenth century. Sold with a certificate of authenticity Oil on canvas (81cm x 66cm) and its frame (101cm x 85cm) imitating tortoiseshell. This portrait represents a man in his 40s. He is wearing a goat and has piercing blue eyes. He is dressed in the fashion of the early seventeenth century, has a sword and a pair of gloves. An envelope is placed on the edge of the table. It is easy to read the execution date of the table: 1601. The rest is more difficult to decipher; "To Mr. Desmundt Gruyster to hold in Utrecht."
