Paul Timper (1937- 2010). Pupil of Leon Devos at the Academy of Brussels, then Fernand Wéry and Roger Somville at the Academy of Watermael-Boitsfort, he obtains in 1958 the grand prize of Master of the City of Brussels and the Ministry of National Education awarded him the same year the Koopal tapestry prize.
In 1962, he joined the Dour Ceramics Workshop, which Somville founded in 1958 on the initiative of Émile Cavenaille; he works with Thérèse and Marie-Henriette Bataille, who will become his wife Claire Lambert and Monique Cornil.
There he meets Valentin Torrento, Louis Van De Spiegele, Franz Tranchant, François Irredia & Hoyos, who prepare the grounds, the enamels and the loadings. Germaine Steurs ensures commercial contact.
Founding member of the Realist Movement in 1969, he took part, among others, with Somville, in the work of the subway station Hankar, in 1975-76 (fresco "Our time"), and, as a member of the Collectif d'Art A public he joined in 1979, he participated in 1986 in the creation of the new dome of the Royal Theater of La Monnaie in Brussels, under the direction of Xavier Crols. In 1987, he collaborated in Louvain-la-Neuve to create the mural "What is an intellectual?", A project by Roger Somville. In Brussels in 1990, he created a personal project for the atrium of the headquarters of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Ministry: a monumental fresco developing the allegorical theme of the Man-Bird, with the help of Marie-Henriette Bataille, Marc Bolly and Xavier Crols. Numerous collective or personal exhibitions (Galerie Racine in Brussels in 1984, Salle Saint George in Mons in 1988, Galerie du Parvis in Saint Gilles in 1991, Salle Hainaut Tourisme in Mons in 1992, Marc Dengis Gallery in Brussels in 1996, Elias Gallery in Antwerp in 1999, the Beaux-Arts Museum of Mons in 2003, gallery 15 in Lilles in 2004, house of Laïcité in Mons in 2007. Paul Timper taught ceramics at the Watermael-Boitsfort Academy from 1973 to 1995. Works conserved in Cabinet of Prints of the Royal Library of Brussels, in the collections of the French Community of Belgium, the Province of Hainaut, as well as the Museum of Verviers and the BAM of Mons.
