Object description :

"Sandstone Head India Vith Century"
Beautiful round sandstone bump with brown patina representing a renouncer or probably Hindu ascetic. His carefully drawn hair is pulled up in a small bun held by a link at the top of the skull. This simple hairstyle will be the one that JAYAVARMAN VII the famous King Kmer will adopt to be represented. The bouncing Indian face, eaten by large eyes hemmed with a double outline, is characteristic of Art Gupta, which has definitively freed itself from the models of Greek sculpture of which Kushan artists were still largely influenced. In spite of the visible shocks and the attacks of the time undergone by this very old work, the purity and the singular energy sought by the sculptor, are always present.
