Dominique Morlot is a French painter born in 1759, and died in Troyes in 1833. This painting dates from the early nineteenth century. It shows the painter facing a canvas on which he works, palette of painting in hand, with his dog at his side. This painting is full of humor and joviality, the character smiles fully, proud to pose with his dog. This painting is a self-portrait, it is painted by Dominique Morlot himself. In 1833, the first major donation to the museum of Troyes was that of the painter Langres Dominique Morlot who bequeathed 46 paintings (Vernet, Allegrain, Tassel ...).
