Johann Jacob Hoch - The Exaltation Of The Cross flag

Object description :

"Johann Jacob Hoch - The Exaltation Of The Cross"
Johann Jacob HOCH Mainz, 1750 - 1829 Pencil 33 x 21 cm Signed and dated lower left "Johann Jacob Hoch / 13 July 1778" Johann Jacob Hoch is a German painter and draftsman. Born in a family of painters from Mainz, he trained in Vienna between 1778 and 1783. He lived in Paris in 1783. He is known for the detailed or miniaturist character of his works, characteristic of the German draftsmen of the last third of the 18th century.
Il s'agit ici sans doute d'un projet de décor (perspective atmosphérique et parties lointaines plus esquissées) avec l'exaltation de la Croix comme sujet, prétexte à la représentation d'une multitude de scénettes sur la vie des grands saints chrétiens.
