"Graziani Pietro And / Or Francesco (attr), Oil On Canvas, Seventeenth Century"
Oil on canvas depicting a battle scene between Turks and Christians, attributed to GRAZIANI Piétro and / or Francesco. To clean. Period late seventeenth century. Francesco Graziani, known as Ciccio Napoletano, is an Italian painter active in Naples and Rome in the second half of the seventeenth century. We do not know much about his life. He was probably born in Capua at an unknown date because he is quoted in some inventories as "Ciccio de Capua" after Roethlisberger-Bianco. The knowledge of the works of Francesco Graziani is rather difficult to specify because it can vary according to the expertises and remains thus discussed. The name of Pietro Graziani appears for paintings of battle scenes in the 1733, 1750 and 1817 inventories of the Linlightow collection at Hopetoun House. The name of Pietro Graziani is indicated on the frame of two paintings of landscapes of the collection Gasparrini of Rome. Likewise, a painting in a private collection in Bologna depicting a battle with a trumpet player bearing an inscription on his back that seems contemporary on the painting "Pietro Graziani 1726" ...
