"Iatmul Lime Bottle"
Iatmul lime gourd, Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea. Calabash engraved with black geometric motifs. Spatula caro bone carved on the upper part, a head, certainly bird; trace of red pigment. Very nice patina smooth force of use. Case used to preserve the lime associated with the mastication of betel nut. Prestigious object Iatmul, given to young men at the end of their initiation cycle and transmitted from generation to generation. Sold with the base Height of the piece with the base: 57cm
