"Watercolor XVIIIv: "the House" Collection Dhikeos"
Coming from the collection of the merchant and "serial collector", Nicos Dhikeos (1896-1987) Established in Lyon, the merchant of Greek origin often bought by whole collections. I remember the sales that took place at Drouot in the early 90s when, in front of such an abundance, the drawings were sold in batches! (Souvenirs, souvenirs!) He affixed on the drawings of his collection his stamp: an owl (symbol of Athena, goddess of wisdom) flanked by her two initials in Greek characters. It is present on our watercolor which I think is Flemish or perhaps French with Nordic influence of the early eighteenth and still keeping in the layout, including leaves, XVIIth accents. Of a fair and delicate treatment, it measures 16 X 27 cm and is mounted by a marie-louise in a gilt frame Louis XVI style 27 X 38 cm, recent. Other photos and many other objects in our shops in Pau and Biarritz and on our website: galerielhoste.com.
