Tree trunks used on ocean-going ships returning from the "Isles" as aforesaid or as return cargo were recovered by carpenters and turned into luxurious furniture to order from the wealthy owners, merchants or notables of prosperous cities , such as Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Nantes or Saint-Malo. These furniture, built with great care and often adorned with fine sculptures, had the advantage, thanks to their hardness, of escaping from the parasites of the wood. The locks and pull handles brighten up the dark woods and resist the sea air. The port furniture in Bordeaux, mostly made of mahogany from Cuba or Santo Domingo, is distinguished by rather heavy shapes with accented curves. The Nantes orders are generally with a crossbow facade between straight uprights ending in small snail feet. The Malvinas cupboards are decorated with octagonal motifs in strong relief. Some wardrobes in the Nord-Finistère contain panels of lemon trees framed by aramante. The furniture of harbor, sought after for the beauty of their wood and their impeccable finishing, have not been the object of copies, lack of essences of wood of sufficient quality to reproduce them.
