"Portrait Of An Officer, Dated 1836; Signed J. Baraille"
In this head and shoulder length portrait, an officer is wearing a black coat with yellow collar, epaulettes, and the accoutrements of an officer. It is signed ‘J Baraille’ and dated 1836. We know by the uniform and accoutrements the sitter was an officer of the 1st regiment of officers on horseback. This identification is therefore made certain from the large regimental silver badge worn on this officer’s black patent leather cross-belt. These types of portraits were popular during the 19th and early 20th century and there were many artists working in this lucrative area for private commissions.
Striking in its colour, condition and its excellent quality and condition original gilt frame.
